I really like how Ultrapool calculates your money rewards

A surprise gaming extra on the blog. I’ve been recently mostly writing about them in my digital garden but this one I wanted to share here.

I recently picked up Ultrapool and have been playing it on my computer and phone a bit ever since. It’s a Balatro-esque pool game where each round, you need to reach a certain level of points, then you get money to buy upgrades and repeat until you win a run.

How much money you get to spend? That depends on how well you’ve done.

Video is a 4 second clip of money calculation as described below in Ultrapool. The visuals show a pool table with a white cue ball, a blue ball with value 2, a total score of 34 and a goal of 15. As the money reward is counted, the score in the middle of the table counts down.

If the goal is 15 points and you score 34, here’s how money rewards are calculated:

  1. You start with a set amount for winning (in this case, 4 euros).
  2. Subtract goal from your points (34-15=19)
  3. Then you get 1 euro and reduce your points by 1 (19-1=18)
  4. Then you get 1 euro and reduce your points by 2 (18-2=16)
  5. Then… you get the point. Each follow up euro costs one extra point until you can’t afford anymore.

If something above resonated with you, let's start a discussion about it! Email me at juhis@hamatti.org and share your thoughts . This year, I want to have more deeper discussions with people from around the world and I'd love if you'd be part of that.
