Junited 2026 was wonderful
Junited is a blogging festival created by Robert Birming a couple of years back
So here’s my suggestion for June: let’s show a little extra appreciation for this lovely digital space of ours. Junited is a love letter, from one blogger to another, and another, and another…
It’s simple: just share links to blog posts or blogs you think deserve more love. A new post, an old favorite, or just a blog you enjoy.
We have a wonderful community of bloggers who participate and this was the first year I took part, sharing 30 posts from across the Internet. All together, 59 people were listed to participate this year.
Robert crunched the numbers in his recap post:
In total, there were 59 bloggers taking part this year.
About 1,000 links were shared. That's around 17 links per blogger.
I hear a lot of talk in my social circles both online and offline about how sad it is that “blogging is dead”. Junited is a great example of how it’s far from dead and it’s actually thriving. If you want to start reading more blogs, this is your opportunity to find a ton of great blogs to add to your RSS reader and start reading.
I’m a big advocate of human curation over algorithmic recommendations and that’s why I personally like participating in this. That’s also why I wanted to write a short bit about each link: what it’s about, what are my thoughts on it and if I’ve written about it too. I find that pure link lists with no context or explanation can be overwhelming to go through. Same as blog rolls or feed dumps that occasionally go around.
And while June is over, we don’t have to stop sharing! If you want structure for it, Robert’s JulyReply is one opportunity to it:
The idea is straightforward and something many bloggers already do. Replying to others' blog posts in a "Re:" format.
You can do this whenever though! If you read interesting bits and you want to share it with a little to say: maybe make a Junited-esque link post and share a bunch. If you have more to say, write a blog post, link to the original, grab some quotes and participate in the discussion!
That’s the beauty of blogging.
If something above resonated with you, let's start a discussion about it! Email me at juhamattisantala@gmail.com and share your thoughts. This year, I want to have more deeper discussions with people from around the world and I'd love if you'd be part of that.
